I remember the first time I met Brandi. It was at a Starbucks, bustling with people frantically working on their laptops and perhaps even some other photographers meeting with prospective brides. Brandi and her mom came in and as soon as I laid eyes on Brandi, I knew this was my kinda girl! Her hair was pulled up in a loose ponytail bun (the way I usually wear my hair) she had on running shorts and a sweatshirt (can you tell I was paying attention?) and she had on the most adorbale chunky glasses! You see, I am the kind of girl who can be girly when needed and I do love clothes, but I am a self-proclaimed non-girly girl. So, when she came in I knew this was my bride! She was effortlessly beautiful:)So, of course when Brandi and Andy chose me to photograph their wedding, I was beyond thrilled!

I didn’t get to meet Andy that day, but wanted to before I was in his face on his wedding day all day with a camera, because, you know, that’s awkward. 😉 So, we all got together for coffee and they were both funny and charming and the perfect lunch dates! Andy made me laugh quite a bit, which is my favorite. And that carried over to the wedding day, only the bonus was that all of his groomsmen were equally funny! And Brandi was such a lovely, sweet, easy to please bride. I could not ask for better clients!

This did turn out to be the most challenging wedding I’ve ever shot, not because of my clients, but it was at night, outside, with no available light at the ceremony site. I knew this ahead of time and came prepared and everything went beautifully!! As a photographer, just like any field, having a challenge is invigorating! And walking away from it feeling like it went great and that the challenge brought me to a new level has me pumped!

But enough about me, this isn’t about me, these guys are gorgeous and amazing and I am so honored to have been there on their wedding day:)Special thanks to Robin at Di Fiori for sending these guys my way and for the absolutely gorgeous florals and tablescapes:)One of my favorite things about this wedding were the cafe lights strung up by Le Force Entertainment, and of course, Avanti Fountain Place was amazingly beautiful and gracious:) Enjoy, share, spread the love :)

I’ve had a hard time narrowing down images for this post. There are so many sweet moments that I wanted to share, and for me, moments are the most important things to capture on a wedding day. All of the posed photos are necessary and wanted, and I do my fair share of those on the day of the wedding, but it’s the special, unplanned moments that make an impact.

When I first met with Kelly and Kevin, I noticed pretty quickly how they fit together. They both have this quiet, calm way about them that struck me and I knew I wanted to work with them. The thing that really sealed it for me though was after the consultation was over and we all walked back to our cars, I turned and saw them walking away together, his arm wrapped around her neck, her arm around his waist and he gently leaned down and kissed the top of her head as they walked. That expression of love when no one was watching was so sweet and genuine. That’s when my heart fluttered and I knew I HAD to work with this couple. And that sweetness was there the whole way. They brought that genuine love to their engagement session and you’ll see it shining here on their wedding day. This makes my heart feel full:)

Today I’m reflecting on how fortunate my life is. I’m just like everyone else, I can nit pick myself and my life apart and find places I want to change and have moments of taking things for granted, but I often think about how grateful I am for everything I have. Not materially, although I am very grateful for our home and such luxuries as a vehicle and clothes and cute shoes, but what I’m most grateful for is my family. One simple thought of my child can put a smile on my face in the midst of the worst possible day, one hug from my husband can make me melt and feel safe even in the face of chaos, one silly joke from my sister can remind me to not take things so seriously, and one short moment of inhaling, looking at the sky and finding gratitude can shift my whole day. These reflections remind me that I am responsible for my happiness and I am the one who chooses to see it right in front of me or not.

All of this thinking leads me to how my business is intertwined with my life and how that impacts me, my life and my business. My work and my life being so connected is something else for which I am grateful. At the risk of sounding cliché, I am so passionate about my work. It’s so invigorating to work with a client and look at the back of my camera and feel giddy over the beauty I get paid to capture. Yes, I just said I get paid to capture beauty! That sentence makes me one of the happiest girls in America! Of course my job entails a lot of hard work, patience, office work, analyzing,
number crunching and all of the other not-so-glamorous details of running a business, but what I truly love about this is that photography has pushed me to grow so much as a person. This was something so unexpected when I started down this road. I was a therapist before this. How could I possibly grow from photography? But I have. In ways I could never imagine. Making it your job to
see beauty in the ordinary, highlight the good in our world and capture love in a box (wow, that actually sounds a lot like therapy) gives you the ability to find it in your own life. Constantly. Pardon the pun, but the lens through which I view my life has changed dramatically since I became a photographer. It’s sharper, richer, more vibrant and alive. I appreciate the moments that I didn’t
notice before. What a gift I’ve been given, to have a job that improves my life.

All of this doesn’t really have a specific point, just reflecting and sharing the thoughts. Enjoy the sweet photo of my favorite:)

Today has been an awesome day! Sunny skies, fresh air, good coffee, good book, a happy child and the determination to CHOOSE to be happy have come together to make a perfect day at home hanging out with my child, getting laundry done and of course, prepping this gorgeous blog post!

I had such a hard time narrowing down favorited for this post. There are so many gorgeous photos here and a love that is bursting at the seams shining in all of them! Steve and Nicole just made this session easy. Combine an adorable couple with that yummy light and BAM! Perfection 😉 Just takes my breath away…

This session makes my heart go pitter patter. It is just stunning!! When I got home and opened these photos up on my computer, I felt like I was looking at an Anthropologie ad!! (and that, people, just makes me drool!) The hazy, golden sunset, the glistening water and shiny shoreline, the towering rock ledges, and of course the gorgeous couple all came together to make this one breathtaking, awe inspiring photo session!

My schedule keeps me pretty busy and I don’t always get to spend as much time as I want with the people I love. So, it’s extra special when I get to hang out and give them something beautiful using my talents. I love being able to use my knowledge of photography to give to those I care about. Jamie is my sister-in-law, but it feels like she’s my real sister. She and my husband and I have practically grown up together, from teenagers to adults and I am so proud of the beautiful woman and wonderful wife she has become. Nate fit right into our family with his goofy nature and fun attitude. Though, obviously, they both pull off the model look quite well too 😉
